For Baptists, in our hurry to cast off all things "Catholic," I think we have diminished the significance of the Lord's Supper. Calling it "symbolic," we forget that our hearts must be pure, if we choose to partake. All call to confession and repentance is appropriate and necessary before every Communion. As for gossip, I find that many prayer requests, i.e. "Please pray for my neighbor who's having an affair with a tootsie at his office and here are the sordid details," fall into that category.
